Indian River School District Amends Campus Tobacco Policy to Include Electronic Cigarettes and Other Vaporizers

You may not know a lot about new tobacco products, but you may see “vape” shops popping up around the County. Staying ahead of the increasingly popular tobacco product isn’t easy. However the Indian River County School District’s amended tobacco policy now prohibits the use of all forms of tobacco including electronic cigarettes and vaporizers. To better communicate the policy to visitors, the District received “Tobacco Free Campus” signs from the Tobacco Free Partnership of Indian River County that are being placed at all schools and District offices this year. “No smoking signs have been around for decades”, said Leslie Spurlock, Indian River’s Tobacco Prevention Specialist. |

“The old signs were generic and didn’t convey the more comprehensive policy that the District recently passed," added Spurlock. "The new signs tell people this policy covers everyone on campus and it includes no smoking, no dipping, and no vaping”.
It’s important for visitors, employees, parents and students to know the School District’s Tobacco Control Policy is in effect for all school sponsored events, including athletic events, whether they take place on or off Indian River School District property.
