Tobacco Free Partnership of Indian River County Finishes a Very Busy Year
      June 17, 2025

As we close out the year, the Tobacco Free Partnership of Indian River County continues making strides toward a tobacco-free environment. This quarter, our dedicated members took action to protect our community’s health and natural spaces.

Advocating for Smoke-Free Parks and Beaches
Michele Buldo of Thrive Coalition and Jeanna Kent of Coastal Connections, alongside a passionate Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) member, recently met with the Mayor Cotugno of Vero Beach and Indian River County Commissioners Earman, Moss, and Flescher. During these meetings, they presented compelling statistics on tobacco litter, highlighting its environmental and health impacts.

Our SWAT representative urged the Mayor to adopt a tobacco-free parks and beaches ordinance for Vero Beach, ensuring public spaces remain clean and safe for all residents and visitors. Additionally, the team encouraged County Commissioners to enforce the existing smoke-free ordinance by installing new signage and promoting the benefits of a smoke-free community. Enhanced visibility and awareness will help reinforce Indian River County’s commitment to a healthier environment.
