A Strong Start to a Tobacco-Free Year!
September 20, 2025
We are proud to kick off the 2025–2026 year with renewed energy and commitment to creating a healthier, tobacco-free Indian River County. Our first Tobacco Free Partnership meeting was held at the United Against Poverty Center, where community members, advocates, and stakeholders gathered to discuss goals, strategies, and opportunities for positive change. The collaboration and enthusiasm at this meeting set a strong foundation for the year ahead.
On September 20, 2025, we were excited to partner with Coastal Connections for our annual Beach Cleanup. This event is a vital opportunity to protect our local environment while raising awareness about the impact of tobacco litter on our beaches and waterways. Volunteers helped remove harmful waste, including cigarette butts, e-cigarette cartridges, and other debris. Cigarette butts are the most commonly littered item globally and contain toxic chemicals that can leach into soil and water, posing serious risks to wildlife and ecosystems.
Other Areas of Focus for the Year Ahead
The Tobacco Free Partnership is committed to:
- Promoting tobacco-free policies in public spaces, schools, and housing
- Educating youth and families about the dangers of nicotine addiction and vaping
- Supporting cessation resources and outreach for those seeking to quit
- Advocating for clean, safe environments free from tobacco litter
